In this video we're going to show you how to replace the headlights. We're going to walk you through very quickly how to just replace the headlight bulbs and then we're also going to show you how to replace the whole headlight assembly on this '98 Corolla, same as any '98 to 2000 Corolla and very similar for the '01 to '02. The tools you'll need are pretty basic. You'll need a 10 mm socket with a ratchet and you will need an extension. A 10 mm wrench and the 10 mm wrench really is just used if you need to aim your headlights after you install them. A flat blade screwdriver and a Philips screwdriver.

Here's a picture of our car before, pretty decent looking car and now here's that same car with the new set of headlights. Here again before and here again is the after. You can see a new set of headlights and parking lights from 1AAuto.com can do a lot to freshen up the front end of your car.

We're just going to change the bulb on the passenger side. You're going to want to remove two 10 mm bolts and just take this huge block out of your way. Now what you're going to do is go in behind here and there's a rubber boot, just kind of pull off. You can see how your bulb there is a wire here that you're going to press, pull it ok, so I just disconnected my lead there. Press this and push it up and that retainer comes off so your bulb comes out. Obviously, put it back in, pull the retainer out of the way, put the bulb in and then push that back to lock it in. Put this back on the top and reconnect your harness. Same thing over on the driver's side the only thing is you have to remove the battery and that's a 10 mm bolt here, a wing nut here. Loosen two 10 mm bolts on your battery cables and then pick the battery up and out.

If you want to change your whole headlight assembly as you can see on this car they're pretty cloudy. You're going to want to take off the whole front bumper cover. It's not that big of a deal though. You need your 10 mm socket and ratchet, there's a couple bolts up on top then you'll need a screwdriver and at the two of these little clips. What you do is you pry the center of the clips up and then that clip comes out. Over on the wheel wells there's another 10 mm bolt right up in here, that's right up at the corner. There's another one right down here and those are on both sides and then right up in here, this car is missing them but you can see right here you'd have another couple of those clips. One would be there and then one would be right over here. Those are right in here which is basically right in the grill here. Come get your 10 mm socket with the whole extension and a ratchet.

Ok and we'll speed it up here as I take those six 10 mm bolts out; two at the top and then two on each side and you can see me on this one a little bit of damage to the car on the side so it makes it a little tough to get to that bolt but I get it. Actually, the bottom one is missing on that side. Switch over to the other side; remove those two bolts from that side. Going to remove your parking light; the Philips screw on top here. Right down inside, it's clipped together, see it right here. You might need to take your screwdriver just like that and pry in between there. Pull your light out, twist counter clockwise bolt comes out then you'll use your socket ratchet extension to take this nut off here then you can reach this bolt right here. Use your socket and ratchet to remove the bolt at the front inside mounting point and then the top bolt that bolts the headlight assembly to the fender. Your light comes out, here's your old headlight, new headlight from 1A Auto. You can see full watt and more clear. What you're going to want to do it preliminarily adjust it. I'm going to adjust her here and an adjustor here. Basically what I'm going to do is just make this the same length as this here, then the same thing for the adjustor down here. Just going to look at my old one and make my new one the same; pretty much already the same down there and I'm going to use these. When you do that use a 10 mm wrench and then poke the screwdriver right through there and through there. You try to turn it counter clockwise to lengthen this and clockwise to shorten it. I want to make it a lot longer.

You've got that kind of lined up. One thing I did find on our new lights is sometimes they'll push these clips on just a little too far so you just want to take a screwdriver, if you push it off that's all right just put it back on and don't push it all the way on. Make sure that you can get to the threaded part of the holes really easily. Check that one and also check the one down here and then put the headlight on, plug it in first. Get that stud started down there and the adjustor goes through a little hole in the fender there and this lines up.

I'm going to fast forward it here as I start the other two bolts and then use my socket and ratchet and extension and tighten them up and you want to make these bolts firm but you don't want to over tighten them. Fast forward as we plug in the parking light, set it back into the fender, clip it in and then install this old screw that holds it. Now at this point before you put your bumper cover back on you want to aim your headlights and that's why I have them on.

The top adjustor that you can see me using the Philips screwdriver on- that adjusts your headlight left and right and you want both headlights -the concentration of the beam- pointing straight ahead. Basically pointing straight ahead from the headlight and then down below here you'll want to use a 10 mm wrench to spin that wheel basically and that adjusts your headlights up and down and basically according to the Massachusetts guidelines anyway you want your low beams to point straight ahead and on a level surface 20 feet in front of you the concentration of the beam should be one inch below the level of the headlight bulb and then the high beams concentration of the beam should be straight ahead and level with the headlight bulb. If your headlight bulb is 25 inches off the ground basically the concentration or the middle of that beam on the wall 20 feet ahead should be 25 inches off the ground as well. On the low beams it would be 24 inches off the ground.

Kind of go quickly through putting the bumper cover back on. Put the Styrofoam pads back on, it doesn't even really snap into place but just goes into a couple of holes, then you put the bumper cover up into place. Make sure it's fitting high up near the lights and then I'll put the center plug on and then I just went to the hardware store and got a couple of automotive body plugs and I put the two bottom ones in. Now I'll start on the side bolts here, ok as you can see me start here and then in a second here do a close up. The upper bolts you can easily kind of put through and then look your way into the holes. They're not that difficult. I didn't get a good shot of it but the lower ones there's actually three different things; you go through the bumper cover, the fender well and then there's a little bracket you bolt into so the lower ones are a little more difficult. You use the shorter bolts on the uppers and the longer bolts on the lowers. Now we'll finish up here, start on those top 10 mm bolts and then tighten them up with your socket ratchet extension and you should be all set.
