Hi, I'm Mike from 1AAuto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years! We're dedicated to delivering quality auto parts, expert customer service, and fast and free shipping, all backed by our 100% satisfaction guarantee. We've created thousands of videos to help you install our parts with confidence. That saves you time and money, so visit us at 1AAuto.com, your trusted source for quality auto parts.
In this video we're going to be working with our 1998 Toyota Camry 2.2-liter four-cylinder. We're going to show you how to remove and replace your front exhaust pipe. This particular one is the style with the cat in the front pipe. However, the process should be very similar for the cat-less front pipes for vehicles that have the cat in the exhaust manifold. If you like this video, please click subscribe. We have a ton more information on this and many other vehicles. And if you need this part for your car, you can follow the link down in the description over to 1AAuto.com.
Here are the items you'll need for this repair: 12mm sockets, 14mm sockets, ratchet, extension, 12mm wrench, 14mm wrench, penetrating oil, jack and jack stands
Raise and support your vehicle. We're using a lift to make it easier to show you, but this job can easily be done in the driveway on a jack and jack stands. Now, normally we would show you how to replace each individual portion of the exhaust, but our entire exhaust system right from the manifold back is rotted beyond the point of repair, so we'll have to replace the entire thing.
The first big issue we noticed is the flex pipe; it has rotted away. All this mesh is coming off and it's actually split in the middle. You can hear the exhaust leaking out of here when the vehicle's running. Now, normally we could change this front cat pipe, however there is nothing left on these flanges. The hardware that's in there isn't even recognizable anymore, so even if we did get these out and get new hardware in, the flanges are too corroded for us to be confident in them sealing correctly.
Our mid-pipe has the same issue. It’s rotted all the way back here at the muffler, so we can't expect this to come off and reseal properly either. And the muffler itself is completely rotting through the case on the side. See how soft the metal is there? So we have to replace our entire exhaust system.
Remove the three 14 millimeter nuts on the front-pipe flange at the bottom of the exhaust manifold with a 14 millimeter socket extension and ratchet. Unbolt these two 12 millimeter bolts, securing the exhaust right before the flex pipe with a 12 millimeter socket and ratchet. Now our bolts broke off, so we've got the bottom half of the clamp off here.
We'll have to find a way to remove the top portion of the hardware before we reinstall our exhaust. Remove the two 12-millimeter bolts securing the exhaust hanger to the sub-frame. Once you've got the bolts out, the hanger will slide right off the stud for the exhaust. Normally at this stage we would remove the hardware here at this flange. If yours is in good condition, you can do that and remove just the cat portion of the exhaust pipe, but again we have nothing left here, so we're doing our full exhaust.

No O2 Sensor plugs
Daniel
January 24, 2017
Fit fine. No problems there. But it had 3 holes for O2 sensors and I only needed one of them. Had to purchase plus at $15 each to close them up. But that's not the best part. When I told the NAPA salesman what I had to do, he said they had oil drain plugs the same size for $3 each. I took the other plugs back to Pep Boys for a refund.
Perfect fit

The part came in and was an exact fit. The only issue was an extra port hole for an O2 sensor that needed to be filled in. Went to a local auto parts store and purchased an oil drain plug that fit perfect into the opening. So far so good. No more Check engine light... Yeah!!!

The cat down pipe fit good, had all the plugs in case you are not in a CARB state. Would be nice if they included new studs/nuts for mounting to the cat.
Easy as 1a auto

Looked well made and did include screw in caps for the extra holes as well as a pair of gaskets (other reviewers and one Q & A said they were not included). I gave it 4 stars as the fit was close but not perfect. I was unable to get it to seat all the way into the screw on hanger near the O2 sensor (the one that the guy sheared the nuts off in the video). I was able to make do.
Perfect fit and appears good quality.

Part is exact fit to Camry 2007. It took about 60 minutes to install. Plugs for O2 sensor holes were provided. Gaskets included but were wrong size. Catalytic converter is smaller in size as compared to OEM however, it's way cheaper than OEM. There are no bolts included. I purchased stainless steel bolts nuts and washer from Lowes. Pipe appears to be stainless steel. Overall nice part. 4 starts because not sure how it will perform over next few years and the fact wrong gasket size wasted my time.
Buena
