Brought to you by 1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the Internet. Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we are going to show you how to replace a tail lamp assembly on the 2006 Chevy Impala. It's the same operation for the left side and the right side as well as many of the model years from 2006 to 2012. Will also be showing you how to service the bulbs. You won't need any tools, just a new tail lamp assembly from 1AAuto.com. We're going to go ahead and do the right side, and we're going to locate a plastic wing nut right there. We're going to go ahead and unscrew that. Then go ahead and pull back the trunk carpeting, and you'll find to more elastic wing nuts right there and up on the top. We can go ahead and remove those. And I'm going to go ahead and fast-forward as I take those two off. Now you can remove the tail lamp assembly just pulling it backwards, and it'll expose the wiring harness as well as the sockets for the bulbs.
Servicing the bulbs is as simple as locating the bulb that is out. You're going to twist the socket, pull it out of the housing, and then pull the bulb straight out. All the bulbs back there in that housing are held in by sockets that need to be twisted, and then all of them directly just pull out and snap back in together. Replacing the tail lamp assembly, you're going to want to find the harness, pull up on the connector, and pull it out. Here you see the comparison of the old part and the new part, and they are absolutely identical ready to go right in. Remove the two plastic stud covers there if they are equipped with it. Those you are just going to throw way. It's for shipping and packaging purposes.
Then go ahead and find your harness, connect it to the body harness there, and then there is a locating pin on the tail lamp assembly that's going to go in the hole there in the right rear fender. Go ahead and push that in. On the inside, keep that carpet back and reinstall those plastic wing nuts, and I'll fast-forward as I tighten those back up. Go ahead and get your carpet in place. Get it over the stud there and behind that plastic trunk molding, and then reinstall your last of the three plastic wing nuts. And with the tail lamp assembly installed, you will notice the excellent quality of the tail lamp and how it fits into your vehicle.
