what is meant by thermostat bypass. does it mean you no longer have a thermostat?

The bypass feature allows water to flow around the engine, without passing through the radiator, while the thermostat is shut. Without it, the water will not circulate correctly creating hot spots around the engine which could lead to damage. This is an HVAC heater hose assembly that directly replaces the original heater hose.

how does this fit into the manifold? is there a seal? is it metal on metal press fit? can you do this by hand without damaging thin walled pipe?

It does have a gasket and it comes with it its not a easy job to install.a half a day to tear it down and reinstall the new one.
